Abstract
Main characteristics of copper ore production in Bor ore deposit are the decrease of metal content in the ore and increase of mining depth in both surface and underground mining. Reduction of ore quality is related to exhaustion of high-graded and introduction of low-graded ore bodies. These circumstances lead to exploration and researches in geology, technology and techno-economics, with the aim to improve the technology of mining and mineral processing. The research should provide reduction of operational costs, which are preconditions for good business results. Technology of surface mining did not change since the beginning of mining in Bor meaning that improvements in technology are necessary. Up to date, surface mining worldwide has been improved. These improvements should be applied at open pits and their successful application will significantly improve the mining economy. Sustainable copper production is impossible without efficient and rational mineral processing, including valorization of useful component from copper ore, high efficiency and low-cost production. Research will be focused to valorization of both copper and other useful components from the ore. Air monitoring in underground mine, at open pits and in processing plants will show the presence of heavy metals and cancerous materials. If the concentration exceeds permitted values, next step will be selection and installing of adequate equipment which will provide protection of environment.
