Abstract
A need for electric energy and its delivery is evident all around the world, especially when renewable sources, such as hydro energy, are concerned. Hydro power plants “Djerdap“ exist more than 35 years and have exceeded their design lifetime. The intention of the Republic of Serbia is to ensure their functioning with maximum efficiency, thus adequate tests have to be performed in order to determine the state of turbine and hydro-mechanical equipment parts and based on the results the scope and methodology of their revitalization would be defined. In order to realize this project adequate researches based on diagnostics, knowledge and experience of the multidisciplinary research team for the realization of the project, as well as the team consisting of the research users who investigate the behaviour of materials, durability and functionality of equipment have to be performed. New methodologies of revitalization which envelop the reparatory welding, metallization, use of new materials and technologies and alterations of the construction solutions would be developed. That would ensure the growth of electricity production because of the increase of reliability, efficiency, power and lifetime of hydroelectric generating sets way above projected values. The expert system based on adequate databases regarding the system performances, as well as newly introduced procedures and standards, are supposed to prevent equipment failures and enhance the hydro power plant performance.
