Abstract
The main objective of the proposed project is to investigate, identify and describe the relevant factors influencing operational performance of large scale machine systems used in the resource industry in order to develop a comprehensive system design and support methodology capable of improving the reliability and service life of such systems. This includes: Development of methodology for assessment of critical components and sub-systems exposed to critical loads and stresses during operation of large scale machine systems used in the resource industry. This involves algorithm development for prediction of failure modes and reliability of critical machine members under different operating loads and regimes. Design and development of an experimental installation and associated test protocols for conveyer testing, especially testing of conveyer rollers for failure and reliability assessment of current and alternative designs. Development of methodology for improvement of operational performance, reliability and efficiency of power transmission systems, and especially of geared power transmissions. Development of methodology for improvement of operational performance, reliability and efficiency of rolling element bearings. A mathematical model will be developed for abrasion intensity evaluation for given geometry and operational conditions. Experimental investigation and development of methodology for verification of operational performance and reliability of cardan joints.
