RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF ALTERNATIVE FUEL AND DRIVE SYSTEMS FOR URBAN BUSES AND REFUSE VEHICLES WITH REGARD TO THE IMPROVEMENTS OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS

The transportation of passengers and urban cleaning are dominant noise and pollution sources in cities. Coinciding entirely with worldwide trends the scope of the project is the research and development of the application of alternative fuels and drive systems in urban buses and communal refuse vehicles with the main aim to improve transport energy efficiency and environmental demands pursuant to European regulations. The project implies theoretical analyzes and simulation modelling yielding optimization of vehicle either with alternative propulsion or with alternative fuel. Also, the project copes with all aspects of bio diesel production and application in the range from raw material of bio oil, research of its combustion in engine, its effect on performance and emission until engine matching for particular fuel. The project results should answer the questions related to existing regulations for the application considered, as well as advantages and drawbacks of the application either of already available or our own newly developed solution. Also, the project should show the economic and ecological effects of the application of selected alternative drive systems and fuels on urban buses and refuse vehicles. The main goal of the project is to promote and foster the application of alternative fuels and drive systems in Serbia through comprehensive analyzes of production and investigation of prototype vehicles including their economic and ecologic aspects.
