Development of new varieties and production technology improvement of oil crops for different purposes

The object of this project is the production of new inbred lines, varietes and hybrids of oil crops, as well as evaluation of influence of environmental factors, biotic and abiotic stresses on seed and oil yields and their components. Taking into consideration that main problems in breeding of oil crops are narrow genetic variability and susceptibility to plant pathogens, these topics will be a priority. Diffferent biotechonogical methods will be used to deal with this problems and as a result new genotypes with various forms and purposes should be selected. In addition to this, new genotypes with different genetic background, as well as currently used genotypes subjected to introgresion of new genes, will be improved in terms of higher yield and quality of seed and oil. In order to increase usage of genetic potential of oil crops it is necessary to do research in control of different pathogenic organisms, insects and weeds, and also improve technology of production. Results from this project should improve oil crops production in terms of financial and ecological point of view as well as quality and technology of production. New varieties and techologies should enhance the sales of our seed on the market. Activities in the area of rationalization of biodiesel production regarding usable raw materials and defining the possibilities of by-product application have as their main purpose the reduction of production costs
