Abstract
The existing traffic operation in Belgrade is characterized by problems in public transportation, traffic overload of city bridges and to them accessible roads, transit flows through the city area, parking problems in the city center etc. Implementation of modern intelligent transportation systems and new technologies can improve urban and suburban traffic operation in great deal. The main aim of this Project is application of new technolgies in ITS in order to improve the process of informing different participants in traffic and in order to improve urban and suburban traffic operation in Belgrade. Research within this Project will be done through seven topics: 1. System of variable traffic signs 2. System of video surveillance in traffic management and detection of traffic violations 3. Transit traffic management 4. System for imforming drivers about possibilities for parking in certain urban and suburban areas 5. System for traffic management in extraordinary circumstances on the bypass and accessible roads and streets 6. Traffic information management in the city area 7. System for vehicles and environment communication – V2I Effects of the Project results can be numerous for all participants in traffic: unloading urban street network, re-schedule of transit flows to the bypass around the city, improved informing participants about traffic, improving traffic safety, improving efficiency of traffic infrastructure and reducing deadlocks on critical road sections.
