Abstract
Air transport system of a country includes ground infrastructure (airports), air space with air traffic control system, and air carriers. Sustainable development of such a system means its continuous positive contribution to the stakeholders (users, operators) and society as a whole, with slower growth, leveling and/or even decrease of negative effects on the environment and society during mid/long term period, under current conditions.Contribution to sustainable development policy from the scientific point of view is possible through single or simultaneous treatment of all or only chosen interrelated and dependent dimensions such as: infrastructural, technical and technological, operational, economical, environmental, social, institutional and political. In many cases safety and security are treated separately, as additional particularly important dimensions. The goal of the project is to provide instruments of scientific support to stakeholders and decision makers in the system and beyond. The support should allow for efficient and high quality evaluation of alternatives for mid- and long-term sustainable development of the air transport system in the Republic of Serbia. To achieve this goal the following four subprojects are proposed: SP1: Planning a Sustainable Air Transport System; SP2: Planning Sustainable Development and Management of Infrastructure Capacity; SP3: Managing Complex System Safely; SP4: Economic measures for capacity utilisation management in air transport
