Abstract
Despite the large number of theoretical and experimental researches, there are still many unresolved questions regarding the seismic behaviour of structures. The main research objective is the development and application of a comprehensive approach to design of new and to safety assessment of existing structures in order to reduce seismic risk. The approach consists of selecting design criteria and structural characteristics (materials, structural systems, detailing, etc.) that for a certain level of seismic action and required level of reliability, the structure will not be damaged beyond certain limit states nor has other restrictions on use. The proposed research aims at establishing a platform to form and supplement a unique base of knowledge in the field of seismic safety of structures. In addition, the research objectives are set to be development of reliable tools for structural analysis, proposing regulations to ensure the necessary level of structural safety and promoting the development and affirmation of advanced performance-based design concepts. The expected results are: 1) New empirical equations for the scaling of response spectra for the territory of Serbia, 2) Development and improvement of methods for aseismic design of buildings and bridges with the inclusion of the soil-structure interaction, 3) Development of assessment methodology and strengthening of existing structures, 4) National parameters proposition within acceptable ranges proposed in EN 1998.
