Abstract
Increase in forest coverage in Serbia is one of strategic goals to be achieved in shortest possible period.According to some plans,it is stipulated that Serbia reaches 41%of its territory covered by forests by 2050instead of current 29.1%.The project researches have been conceptualized through three phases, out of which each one covers specific problem set related to wood plantations. The first research phase will include experimental wood plantations of fast growing species as a basis for mass establishment of wood plantations in order to provide biomass and environmental protection. The second research phase will include status and potentials analysis related to the existing specialized wood plantations(seedplantations,proveniencetests,etc.).Also,researches related to the establishment of specialized plantations in various habitats will be implemented in this phase. The third phase will include researches aimed at improvement of technologies for the establishment of wood plantations in degraded habitats. The aforementioned phases will be implemented through a range of defined activities which need to be continually implemented over a longer period of time, limited by the project to4research years.Throughout this period, researches will cover several species of forests trees(beech, oak, acacia, paulownia, linden, blackand white pine, spruce, fir)in different habitats, all with an aim to intensify the establishment of wood plantations intended for increase in forest coverage in Serbia.
