Abstract
The subject of research is the analysis of the demographic situation, trends and problems in Serbia with the purpose of defining public policies. In that sense, all demographic development phenomena, their past characteristics, deterministic factors, movement patterns and expected changes in the foreseeable future will be examined. Serbia’s population problems in confronting contemporary socio-economic processes such as transition, global economic crisis and European integrations will especially be identified. At the same time, the demographic, economic, sociological, cultural and other consequences of these trends in the fields in which the population factor is present will also be examined. The state of the population policy in Serbia will be evaluated and possible new direction of measures to be taken by the government as a response to the present and future demographic challenges. The results of the project will be used for defining and implementing various public policies such as social, economic, education and pension policies as well as the spatial and regional development policy. The project has two sub-projects. The first one, Spatial differentiation of demographic phenomena in Serbia, will provide a basis for demographic regionalization of Serbia by certain issues will be determined. The second one, Digitalization and on-line publishing of demographic data, will enable the results of the project to become transparent and easily accessible to all interested users.
