Interdisciplinary research of Serbian cultural and linguistic heritage. Creation of multimedial Internet portal “The Lexicon of Serbian Culture”

The aim of the project is to create a unique digital treasury of knowledge which will foster the research and preservation of the Serbian cultural, historical and linguistic heritage, while contributing to the development and application of digital technologies in the humanities. The project will be based on a collection of digitalized dictionaries of the Serbian language and culture (dialectical, historical, ethological/anthropological, etymological, onomastic and encyclopedic) as well as various other sources (archival data, manuscript, video and audio fieldwork recordings, relevant ethological/anthropological and linguistic references), which will be integrated in a searchable and easily expandable database, to be used by the project participants in the creation of an innovative, open-access, multimedia, digital thesaurus of the Serbian language and culture. The project will link up diverse scientific areas of study- ethnology/anthropology, linguistics and computer science, with a possibility of including other disciplines. The anticipated results of the linguistic, ethnological and anthropological studies and terminology analysis of the Serbian material and spiritual culture will be incorporated into a unique conceptual Lexicon of Serbian Culture. The project will integrate previous efforts in developing the lexicographic and humanistic digital infrastructure in the Republic of Serbia, such as the Serbian Internet Library for Arts and Humanities,Transpoetika Dictionary.
