Abstract
Proposed research project will comprise functional-anatomical and hemodynamic examination of different diseases and disorders by up-to-date conventional nuclear medicine methods, based on the new generation of radiopharmaceuticals and (partly own) physiological or stochastic models and algorithms, as well as positron emission tomography with anatomic localization (PET/CT). The examinations will include perfusion of brain and myocardium, as well as hemodynamic and functional disorders of the hepatobiliary, gastrointestinal and urinary systems, respectively. Examinations of the haematopoetic system, as well as infections and inflammations will also be performed. A significant part of the examinations will be dedicated to oncology (primary and secondary brain, nasopharyngeal, breasts, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, prostate, bones, soft tissues, endocrine and neuroendocrine tumors) including intraoperative detection of tumor tissue. Radionuclide therapy of malignant and inflammatory diseases will also be evaluated. Positron emission tomography will be used for the detection of diseases and disorders in neurology, psychiatry, cardiology, infections and inflammations and in oncology. Along with the contribution to further development of nuclear medicine methods, the final goal is to evaluate their role and significance in diagnostics and therapy, as well as better understanding of pathophysiology of different kinds of diseases and disorders.
