Abstract
The aim of the project is to analyze the modulation of action of different mediators of inflammation (e.g. NO, free oxygen radicals etc.) in different experimental settings such as: a) ischemia-reperfusion injury; b) pain; c) muscle contractility; d) electrophysiological research - the model of Retzius’s nerve cell of the leech (the role of exogenous excitatory amino acids in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases). Also, a part of research will be dedicated to the analysis of pharmacokinetic and pharmacoepidemiological parameters of anti-inflammatory drugs in clinical and outpatient settings (e.g. antiepileptics, statins etc.). The proposed investigation should contribute to improvement of the therapy of certain diseases, in which inflammation and oxidative stress are underlying mechanisms of pathogenesis (e.g. acute renal failure, acute and chronic painful conditions, neurodegenerative diseases). It is also expected that the evaluation of the mechanisms and sites of drugs action, as well as drug interactions, will contribute to re-establishment of the principles of rational pharmacotherapy.
