Abstract
The subject of this project is implementation of the new molecular method for fast detection of methicillin resistant strains of staphylococci directly in swabs. Usually, procedure for detecting MRS strains from the moment of sampling ‘till detection of mecA gene lasts from 72 to 96 hours, while during that time undetected individuals which represents carriers, are disseminating causative agent. Besides that, a great number of microbiological laboratories in Serbia does not have possibility to detect mecA gene-a basic qualification for categorizing staphylococci as MRS. Because of uncontrolled dissemination of MRS strains to community as well as to animal population, and even to foodstuffs, the attention is redirected on improving of old and discovering of new, faster methods for detection of MRS in infected or colonized individuals. The newest method is based on detection mecA gene, directly in swabs, and it is performed by application of NucliSENS EasyQ System (bioMerieux) or GeneOHM (Cepheid GeneExpert). The results are obtained only after 70 minutes. The goal of this project is the evaluation of this new molecular method (NucliSENS System) from microbiological and economical aspect in comparison to all the previously used methods for detecting MRS. This would be the first application of NucliSENS System in Serbia and it’s first use in examination of samples originated from animals.
