Danube and Balkan: Cultural and Historical Heritage

This project is focused on the Danube River and its role in shaping of the representation of Serbia in European literature. In terms of theory and methodology this field is recognized as imagological and interpretative. It’s importance lies in questioning of the various theories, in collecting diverse archival material, in the analysis, interpretation and challenging of the historical, cultural and geographical importance of Danube area in Serbia. The importance of Danube project is reflected, not only in collecting travel accounts and cartography of the area, but also in questioning the range of cultural, historical and political importance of Danube for Serbia and the region of South Eastern Europe. Thus, the researchers will strive to interpret the importance of this area from their own angle. They would give a new insight in the cultural role of Danube, its position in the international relations, in the peculiar mixing of scientific, artistic, economic, political influences present in it.
