Abstract
Important issues of identity in the musicological project Identities of Serbian music in the world cultural context are discussed in two ways: 1. through identities in music and 2. through music in identities. The first category refers to socioculturally conditioned aspects of music identities, the second refers to music as a means of development of other aspects of identity, such as gender, ethnic, religious, class etc. The main goals of this project are: 1. to affirm Serbian music identity and current musicological accomplishments within European/world context; 2. to define and clarify identities in music, that is, music in identities, related to Serbian music and its wider cultural context. The project will include research of historic, stylistic, genre, institutional and individual creative identities and wider theoretical determiners. A complex methodological procedure will – in addition to historiographic and analytical approach – include interdisciplinary and comparative reviews and most recent accomplishments in the area of musicology. The results of the collective research will be presented in English in History of Serbian Music, in the Lexicon of musical institutions in Serbia and in New Sound, an international music journal. Individual results will be published in monographs, theme collections and journals and will also be presented at scientific meetings in Serbia and abroad. PhD dissertations and their defence have also been planned.
