Abstract
Herbal medicines and biocides take on increasing importance in veterinary medicine and animal husbandry. Frequent occurrence of resistance of microorganisms and parasites on classical antimicrobial and antiparasitic drugs require alternative, safe substances for the treatment of animal diseases as well as for the control of harmful organisms in animal husbandry (insects, microbes, etc.). Plants produce essential oils as organic products of secondary metabolism. Essential oils (or their active principles) are harmlessness and potentially the most serious alternative herbal drugs and biocides (based on its pharmacological properties - antimicrobial effects, antiparsitic effects, etc.). The content of this project will be testing and development of herbal medicines and biocides on the basis of active principles of essential oils, monoterpenoids - carvacrol and thymol and phenylpropanoid - cinnamaldehyde. The results of the project will be the preclinical data about toxicological and pharmacodinamic properties of carvacrole, thymol and cynnamaldehyde that are required for their further evaluation. The results of the project after clinical trials will be proposal on the possibility of practical uses of carvacrol, thymol and cinnamaldehyde in veterinary medicine and animal husbandry, therefore clearly defined antihelminics, growth stimulants, disinfectants, insecticides and biofungicides (against toxin-producing fungi) on the basis of the active principles of tested essential oils.
