Abstract
The subject of research within the proposed project will be the works of architecture, sculpture, painting and applied art created in the Serbian medieval lands, from the time of the Christianisation of the Serbs (in the mid-9th century) to the Great Migration (in 1690). The project will concentrate on the formation of a comprehensive databases and on the appropriate research work to lay the ground for producing a synthetic overview of the development of Serbian medieval art and for determining its place in the broader context of the history of medieval art of southeastern Europe. In keeping with this, the most important results of this project would be detailed digital records of the artistic works belonging to Serbian medieval heritage, the preparation of other material necessary for a synthetic overview of Serbian medieval art, the creation of monographs about individual monuments and creating the optimum conditions for presenting Serbian medieval culture and art worldwide. It is also expected that the work on this proposed subject could contribute to defining the European cultural identity of the Serb people and to the development of tourism in Serbia, which bases a significant portion of its tourism offer on its medieval cultural heritage. The results of the work will be presented by means of synthetic overviews, monographs, studies and articles, doctoral and masters’ theses, papers and communications at academic conferences and through the electronic media.
