Abstract
During the second half of the 20th century, a number of remarkable literary scholars shaped the cultural consciousness of literature by describing its relations to other discursive practices (philosophy, sociology, ideology, history). Their work is finished and it is necessary to look into its essential aspects. In terms of cultural theory, the most significant is the issue of the role the literature had in forming the cultural model established in predominantly ideologically determined Serbian society of the second half of the 20th century. Having recognised a universal (Yugoslav and European-American context) and a particular aspect (internal development and changes) of that pattern, the reception of the contemporary philosophical-theoretical and methodological consciousness of the second half of the 20th century is distinguished within the universal aspect, whereas, within the particular aspect, it is necessary to throw light upon the contribution of the volume and the significance of the great publications of our literary thought to the overall comprehension of the literature's role in Serbian society, promoting neglected and less prominent literary-historical events, improving the knowledge of the most important literary works of the world literature, researching the major types and genres in Serbian literature (lyric poetry, novel), approaching literary classifications (Baroque, Romanticism) and the whole Serbian literature (integral history of literature).
