Abstract
The subject matter of the proposed macroproject is the research of the relations between tradition and modernization within the development strategies of the postsocialist societies of Serbia and the Balkans, and of their effects on the structural changes, the sociocultural dynamics and the European future of the given societies. The macroproject will especially focus on the intercultural processes, interethnic relations and the tranformation of (national, regional, and other) identities against the background of regional and European integrations. The Main Research Topics: - intercultural dialogue, encounters and clashes of civilizations in the Balkans; - the relation between the traditional and the modern in the culture of the Balkan nations; - the strategies of modernization and development of the postsocialist societies in the Balkans; - the transformation of national identities within the context of the Eurointegration processes. The Goals of the Theoretical, Empirical and Fundamental Research: - to analyse the relation between tradition and modernization in the Balkan societies; - to explore how the current processes (of transition, globalization, Eurointegration) influence the transformation of (especially national and cultural) identities; - to research the role of the educational and cultural policy and that of the mass media in the affirmation of the values of modernization, Eurointegration and the culture of peace in the Balkans.
