Description
Slovenian institute of quality and metrology (SIQ) is an independent, non-profit-distributing institution operating in the fields of testing and certification of electrical and electronic equipment, metrology, including calibration and assessment and certification of management systems.
The beginnings of the SIQ"s activities reach back in 1960, when the Institute for Automation is founded to ensure promotion of Slovenian electric and machine industry. In 1974 the Sector for Measurements and Quality becomes an independent organization - the Institute of Quality and Metrology (IKM). In 1992 the Slovenian Institute of Quality and Metrology is founded as the successor of the IKM to realize the idea of an institution which will assure harmonization and compatibility with similar testing laboratories and certification bodies in Europe and throughout the world.
FIELDS OF ACTIVITY
Main areas of activity
- Testing and certification of products
according to national, international, and other standards and regulations; issuing of certificates and other documents of conformity
- Metrology
maintenance of national measurement standards of electrical current and time, calibration of measuring standards and instruments, and performing certain functions of legal metrology
- Management systems assessment and certification
according to national, international, and other standards and regulations, and issuing of pertinent certificates
Accompanying tasks and supporting services
- Research and development in the fields of quality assurance, product testing, and metrology
- Occupational safety and health
- Organization of training and informative seminars within the scope of SIQ"s activity
- Technical help to exporters
ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE
SIQ has been founded according to the Law on Institutions and is governed by the SIQ Council. The SIQ certification system is administered and supervised by the Board of Certification Body. In both governing bodies there are the representatives of the interested public, economic, and industrial associations, as well as the delegates of the institutions representing the customers of SIQ"s services.
RECOGNITIONS AND INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION
SIQ holds a number of national recognitions of competence in all three main areas of its activity. SIQ participates as a recognized testing laboratory and a national certification body (NCB) in the CB Scheme and in the CCA. SIQ is a signatory to three European agreements on the use of commonly agreed marks of conformity (the Keymark Scheme, ENEC, the CCA EMC Agreement). SIQ is a full member of IQNet (International Certification Network).
SIQ has been accredited as a certification body for quality systems certification by SWEDAC (Sweden) and SMIS-SA (Slovenian accreditation). SIQ has been accredited as a calibration laboratory by RvA / NKO (Netherlands) and SMIS-SA (Slovenian accreditation).
