Description
The Institute for Civilization and Culture was founded in 1997 as an independent research organization with the legal status of an independent institute for research, education, and counselling in social science and humanities. The Institute is listed in the register of research institutions at the Slovene Ministry of education, science and sport (registration number: 1636). The Institute''s research activities narrow down from the broad areas of civilization and culture to the social, civil, urban, economic and cultural aspects of human existence: cultural policy, identity and democracy building, historical demographics, social stratification, migrations/transitional demographics, national-transnational, language issues, national education and science policies and their roles as constituting parts of the world development, social impacts of new technologies and information society as such. In its seventh year of existence, with its expertise and working team, ICK has become an important thinktank in matters of cultural policies, democratic developments, transitions and EU integrations. Because of the wide variety od research activities, the Institute requires flexibility in its staffing policy - research groups are thus formed according to the goals of individual tasks, which allows bringing in a lot of young collaborators, research assistants, senior and graduate students. Other extrainstitutional collaborators come from similar domestic and foreign research organizations, with which permanent institutional contact has been established.
