Abstract
Essentially the aim is to enunciate generalisations, to exact new concepts and to introduce new levels of auto-reflection of the research procedures in the field of education. We took into account, that this field covers a complex domain of the social activity, which plays an important role as the reproduction mechanism of a society. A wide spectrum of sciences intervene into this domain. They imply the modes of the mediation of knowledge. The notion of the information society is imprecise, but it marks a broad perception of a new epoch and a transformed social structure. Into this structure the effects of globalisation and the use of technologies are inscribed, and they essentially speed up dynamics of relationship between its ''''components''''. The education is gaining a central importance as a sub-system of such society. However, within this so important segment of society there are constant collisions between the ever changing needs and demands of the ''''whole society'''' and an inertia of the school systems, between exponential development of sciences and capacities of schools for a mediation of the selected knowledge. Problems loom even larger within so called new democracies, that are confronting many difficulties in a process of democratic and economic transformation. In such circumstances the very functioning of school system becomes doubtful, i.e. its ''''production'''' of knowledge (higher and different level of literacy) as well as its moral or ethical impacts (democratic personality). This causes a constant disruption of any general consensus, concerning the purpose of education, its role within the economy and its impact upon an individual within a society. All these complex contradictions and structural discords are reflected in the research of the determinants of education within a range of social sciences and humanities. A lively debate in this scope yields conceptual ''''tools'''' that make possible the articulation of scientific paradigms in the actual reflections upon problems, as well as in any ideas for solutions. Our project is conceived as a participation in this debate with an aim of a critical reception of concepts in the domain.
