Abstract
In the year 1998 different layers of geographical information systems were acquired and analysed. Demonstration study was carried out in the region of Velenje (previous Velenje commune). Data from different layers were synthesised and atractivity maps were worked out as well as the maps of limitations for different land uses. Activities in space, land policies and land use regimes were understood as mosaic, multipurpose and sustainable uses. The hypothesis that GIS technology can help in physical planning on municipal, regional or state-wide levels as well as in the fields of environmental protection was successfully tested..
