Abstract
The main purpose of the proposal is to use the micronucleus test (MN) in fish cells, which after genotoxic effects pass one cell cycle. With this cytogenetic technique we will study the effects of some pollutants (PAH, nitro-PAH, aromatic amines, organtin, triazine herbicide, Hg, Cu, Pb, Cd etc.) in Slovenian water ecosystems. With the electrophoretic method we will also determine DNA damage and reparation in fish cells exposed to these pollutants. This study will give more insight and more exact data on the health risk resulting from exposure to these pollutants under laboratory and field conditions in some Slovenian rivers and the Gulf of Trieste.
