Abstract
The subject of the research are historical and theoretical issues relating to the theater, performance, film, radio, television, video and other cognate audio-visual arts in Slovenia. An important segment is the analysis of cultural performances as a part of wider cultural, historical and social processes.
Through our studies of theater, film radio and television we expose artistic, cultural and sociological aspects, and link concrete historical studies with the systematic studies of the theoretical and epistemological issues.
The research program consists of several thematic units, namely:
- the development of the models used in theoretical studies of audio-visual arts (Slovene terminology, the methodology of theater and film sciences, ontological characteristics of phenomena, theater/film semiology etc.)
- the development of models used in historical studies of audio-visual arts (new historiographic and interpretative strategies, social and narrative models for the historical presentation of the theater, film, radio and television)
- acquisition of new sources and documentation for the history of theater, radio film and television in Slovenia (electronic presentations of achievements, taxonomy and the analysis of written and new audio-visual sources, upgrades of existing databases, application of new technologies)
- the historical analysis of the theater, radio, film and television in Slovenia with respect to literary and audio-visual characteristics, the methods of production and reception (folklore and folk's theater, passion plays, national and popular theater , modernist, avant-garde and post-modern practices, linking the theater with new technologies and media, film, radio and TV production, video, internet)
- sociological and cultural studies of audio-visual arts (the study of the audience, institutional apparatuses for production and distribution, the relationship between institutional and non-institutional production, the analysis of the activities in the field of theater/film of marginalized social and cultural groups).
The program is the basis for the preparation of fundamental expert publications and lexicons dealing with the historical and theoretical isssues relating to the theater, radio, film and television in Slovenia.
