Abstract
The research program Linguistics II - Romance Languages comprises the study of various aspects of the structure and use of three Romance languages: French, Italian and Spanish. A number of internationally acclaimed theoretical and methodological approaches - from text linguistics to phonology and phonetics - have already become a constant in the research activities of the group. An important feature of the program is its contrastive character: the analyzed language will be compared mostly to Slovene (as the mother tongue), occasionally to another Romance language, or to English. Our central research areas will be: - text linguistics with stylistics, pragmatics and narratology (the choice of particular linguistic expressions as vehicles of aesthetic or social meaning; the formal characteristics of different text types) - translatology with translation assessment (theoretical and applied research) - lexicology and lexicography; (study and preparation of dictionaries) - study of foreign language acquisition and teaching (proficiency control and preparation of efficient teaching and assessment tools) - diachronical linguistics and languages in contact (common characteristics and differences of Romance languages; impacts of different Romance languages on Slovene) - phonology and phonetics.
