Abstract
Etiology, epidemiology, diagnostics, preventive measures, and treatment of dental caries, inflammatory conditioned changes, congenital and acquired anomalies, dental injuries and injuries of
the facial skeleton, malignant tumours of the maxillofacial region.
The influence of PCB (polyclorinated biphenyls) on the development of dental enamel defects.
Study of sublingual micro-organisms plaque for clinical diagnoses’ support and for obtaining an insight into the etiology of periodontal disease. Estimation of physiological and pathological conditions of periodontal status by using a system for automatic and statistical data processing concerning the teeth transfer in the area of high elasticity. Study of immune response to the periapycal inflammation. Dimensional characteristics of the upper oral cavity with orofacial clefts, study of functional undepreciation of affected areas according to the treatment procedures and psycho-socio health status of the patients.
Computer programme for registration and classification of dental injuries and preventive measures.
The role of papylom’s viruses at the etiology of oral cavity malignoms.
Research of the bio-mechanical nature of dental materials: composite dental materials, glass-ionomer cements, compomers, and modern dental ceramics.
Analyses of hard dental tissue and dental materials’ structure with magnetic-resonances.
Usage of Er:YAG laser and other lasers for polymerisation of dental composites and surface preparation of hard dental tissues.
Study of biophysical nature and structural changes of cyrcon-oxide ceramics according to various methods of treatment.
Significance of the Research Programme in a broader Sense
Through the international connections, we participate in creating a clearer total image of oral health in Europe. On the basis of thorough research, we contribute greatly to the knowledge of biological rules of tumours and inflammations, as well as the interdependent functions and forms of orofacial areas. By original usage of magnetic-resonance microscopy, and thus preventing a diffusion of glass-ionomer cements, we will contribute to the clarification of their coagulation reactions.
By researching the cyrcon-oxyde ceramics, which in the future are going to substitute the metals in stomato-prothetic rehabilitations, our research group is ranked among the leading groups in the area of modern dental ceramics.
Significance of the Research Programme for Slovenia
Improvement of the general oral health status by using preventive measures and improving the treatment procedures, as well as by implementing the research results directly into practice. On the basis of the established, important factors, the future healing procedures will be more efficient and rational.
So far existing research of the lasers Er:YAG and Nd:YAG effects on hard dental tissues is the basis for development and production of Twinlight (Fotona) dental laser.
By researching dental materials, the group will acquire enough experience for establishing a national reference lab for the verification of dental materials.
