Abstract
The reduction of process water consumption and waste water pollution in pulp and paper production will be accomplished within the limits of present legislation by development and introduction of new water treatment technologies.Computer modelling techniques as well as papermaking pilot plant equipment will be used for this purpose. Dynamic behaviour of water system will be investigated, especially relations between variations of white water properties, process chemicals and paper quality.Special attention will be focused on incorporation of different process water treatment techniques into the paper manufacturing process. The predominating species of microorganisms, appearing in closed water systems, will be also identified, in order to prevent their detrimental effects on paper quality.New procedures for conversion of solid waste from water treatment plants into useful products will be developed as well.
