Abstract
Hypothesis. Critical editions are important for literary criticism and other fields of the humanities, since texts are their main research subject or their primary source. Critical editions transmit texts to be used in further research and at the same time occur as the result of the basic research. In comparison with printed editions the computer aided editions in electronic medium offer new ways of reconstruction, presentation and analysis of texts. Electronic medium enables storage of greater amounts of text, graphic reproduction of manuscript documents, linkage with corresponding types of transcriptions and variants, cross-references leading to different kinds of scientific apparatus, analytic procedures etc. Interactive links between the literary text and the corresponding theoretical background would make use of specific possibilities, which are open to literary texts research in the electronic medium. This medium offers critical editions greater flexibility and public accessibility than printed books, since the results may be currently published on the internet; the financial aspect of electronic editions is another advantage. Goals. The goals of the multidisciplinary project Critical editions in electronic medium are twofold. On the methodological level we will prepare the analysis of the text elements, of the scientific apparatus and of interactive links concerning the Slovenian literary texts from different historical periods. The next level of the project will be the application of these methodological standards to the electronic edition of selected text corpuses (The Škofja loka passion, Ž. Zois’s correspondence, A. Gradnik’s and A. Podbevšek’s poetry). These pilot editions should primarily serve to a better presentation of the achieved methodology. The results should also be accessible on the internet, therefore the most updated and universal international standards of electronic encoding will be used. Relevance. The methodology of critical edition of texts in the electronic medium, developed through our project, will be relevant for all branches of the humanities, dealing with texts as their research subject or source. The methodology can be later applied also to other kinds of texts, as for pedagogical purposes (school readings etc.). Such applications suggest possibilities of further development of this project in direction of popularization of literature and the humanities.
