Abstract
Reduction of oil and almost it's daily price increasing lead world developement on the field of hydraulics fluid in two different ways of alternative sources. One of alterantive sources instead of mineral oil is tap water. Leaders on this fields are Scandinavian countries. We are going to explore possibility of usage of tap water as hydraulic fluid in power control-hydraulics. Before start of developement or usage hydraulics components for tap water we have to know all main properties of tap water, which are different as properties of mineral oil. Water power-control hydraulics is very new in Slovenia. From this reason is aim of this research to show advantages and disadvantages of it. Usage of mineral oil was leading in twenty century to important technical improvements, because of high viscosity and better lubrication. But important disadvantage of usage of minerail oil is high polution of environment.
Significance for science
First of all a double test rig was designed, constructed and built up. It is unique system which enables further researches on the field of water power-control hydraulics. One part is purposed to investigate the system and components characteristics and properties of power-control hydraulics using hydraulic mineral oil as fluid and the second part using tap water as fluid. Both parts enable analytical comparison of the characteristics and properties between both systems and the components of both systems. From the scientific point of view is important, that this test rig enables a wide range of research work in future. It is especially important as environmentally problems are increasing.
In this project stainless steel was mostly used as the main researched material for the elements inside hydraulic components. For the science progress the results are very useful, but above all the demands about future researches with various other materials with the aim to get still better characteristics and properties of the components of water hydraulics, are appearing. It is important for the progress of science on this field and especially for the natural environment.
Furthermore the existing mathematical model, developed in our laboratory, rather simple for application in industrial praxis, was used for analytical comparison and evaluation of dynamical properties and characteristics of both systems. It proved to be usable and can be further developed and tested taking into account additional special characteristics and properties of water, these ones which differ significantly from those of mineral hydraulic oil.
Significance for the country
First let us discuss the safety and environmental point of view. In some kinds of industry the fire danger is very problematic. Such machines and production lines are working in steel plants, hot rolling mills, smelting plants, etc. To use hydraulic mineral oil in such industry is very dangerous. Mixture of mineral oil and water is not dangerous from the point of fire, but is problematic from the environmental point of view. Synthetic fluids are also problematic from this point of view. Only tap water is totally faultless. Considering the future of Slovenia and her development as a clean and environmentally kind country it is important to use such harmless working fluids in this future. Occasional accidental outpourings of hydraulic fluid are namely unavoidable. If it is water, then there is no problem.
Slovenia has a lot of forest industry. The hydraulic systems of these machines in this environment should work on tap water as hydraulic fluid in future. Use of tap water in hydraulic systems for these machines should contribute a great deal at protecting natural environment. As the beneficiary of this research project, that is Tajfun Planina d.o.o., a Slovenian producer of machines for forestry, saw the advantages of water power-control hydraulic systems, he supported this project.
Production of water power-control hydraulic components and complete systems gives possibilities for new employments in Slovenia and furthermore with new products introduces also new technologies. Additionally that means higher technical level of products.
