Abstract
The aim of the proposed project is fundamental-scientific investigations of the Adriatic Sea. The main emphasis is on studies of sedimentological, mineralogical, geochemical and isotopic (O, C, H, S and N) characteristics of the Quaternary and of recent sediments, as well as sedimentary biogeochemistry, thus providing unique geological, climatological, ecological and biological information. The project also includes the study of the geochemical (major, minor, trace, and RE elements) and isotopic characteristics of seawater, as well as of various marine organisms. This should provide information on hydrological and environmental conditions and on the anthropogenic impact and distribution of different pollutants, especially trace metals in the Adriatic Sea.
