Abstract
The proposed project originated from commitments given in the Strategy of Scientific and Technological Development of Serbia by 2015. It will contribute to improved understanding of climate changes and their influence on environment, resources and society and includes the following: • Interdisciplinary research of physical, chemical, biological and urban systems; • Integration of scientific knowledge for making safer decisions in certain systems; • Research at national and sectoral level for promoting analysis and reaction of natural and human systems to multiple stresses. The subject matter of the proposed project is divided into subprojects, in four groups: modelling, development and verification of the models, sectors, socio-economic aspect, and dissemination of research results. The development of the Regional Earth Modeling System – REMS will allow for improved understanding of the causes and impacts of climate change. Based on results of modelling biological and other systems, a broader framework for modeling and monitoring of atmospheric pollution transport will be obtained. Support to decision-making in specific sectors implies an analysis of scenarios and comparisons; quantification of climate system vulnerability and uncertainty according to factors of stress, through models implementation; structured information for both national and local level about potential causes of global changes, but also for adaptation and mitigation strategies.
