Abstract
The subject of this research are social and political peculiarities in the condition of Serbs and Serbia in the 20th century. In view of the complexity of the problems and the interdisciplinary approach, the subject of research is divided into three totalities (subprojects): 1. Serbian society – identities, specific features, transformations; 2. Internal politics: between democracy and totalitarianism; 3. Challenges in foreign politics: Yugoslavia between big powers and small states. Work on this project will be carried out in several phases: Research in libraries, archives and field work, analysis and critical perception of the gathered material, writing of scientific works. The expected results relate to publishing treatises and articles in scientific periodicals of national and international importance, collection of works, monographs, completion of PhD dissertations; participation at conferences and symposiums in the country and abroad, and the organization of scientific assemblies; lectures, scientific conferences and round tables; presentation of publications, promotion in the media. Besides scientific importance (broadening of knowledge on the past of Serbia, Serbs and the Western Balkan region and the advancement of the quality of conclusions) the results will have a wider social importance (affirmation of Serbia’s national and state interests within the international community).
