The Aspects of Identity and Their Fashioning in Serbian Literature

The aspects of identity and their fashioning in Serbian literature will be studied in synchronic and diachronic perspective. They are conditioned by the changes in national and cultural status of Serbian literature as well as the ways of its self-fashioning. The impact of minor national communities and neighbor nations that participated in the tradition of Serbian literature and established comprehensive relationship with it will also be investigated. The subject of the research will be: the identity of the writers and readers in the perspective of psychology and sociology of creation as well as the theory of reception; the identity of the creators and works accomplished through the categories of style, movements and historical epochs; the so-called gender identity will also be studied together with the category of Otherness; the ways of national identity is being fashioned in and through literature; how the changes in established literary canon reflects on identity changes and vice versa.
