The Coal mine Velenje

The coal mine Velenje is one of the biggest coal mines in Europe. Regarding technical and technological equipment it belongs to the world top in mining. Together with the thermo plant Šoštanj it provides more than 30% of the electric power in S Slovenia and is therefore the energetics strategic object important for SLOVENIA. The department for development and research works within the Coal mine Velenje. It is registered as the research unit at the Ministry for Science and Technology. The focus of the research and development activity is the ecologically less revocable and economically more effective coal production as well as the security and the humanisation of the labour. Velenje coal Mine has a permanent co-operation with University and other research centres. We have established business contacts with eminent European producers of mining equipment, so we do see the possibilities for the co-operation in the field of the modern technology transfer to the foreign partners. The most important development programmes are: - technology of mining and development of the mining equipment - construction technology of the underground objects - rationalisation of the logistics processes - consolidation of the coal layers - application of the desulphurization and roasting residue products in the mine - starting the tourist activities on the surface of the recultivated areas - the coal mine museum
