Abstract
The biggest dissadvantage of Slovenian manufacturing companies is in lack of innovation and capability of developing new products. In the past they have developed necessary technologies and technological knowledge individually. We call this type of organization vertical organization which has a lot of unexploited possibilities. A lot of energy, time and costs are directed into the development of current knowledge and technologies and not into the new, innovative technologies. The »know-how« process is becoming more and more important. It enables efficient usage and application of modern technologies. The discipline which incorporates technological improvement, application of technologies into the practice, possibility of accepting innovative technologies is known as »Management of technologies«.
In the research we are going to analyse advantages of successful management of industry at the Primorska region and show how to connect technological sources into the business sources and the environment of the company with intention of improving its technological capabilities.
Significance for science
Rapid Manufacturing (RM) is playing an important role in maintaining economical efficiency of manufacturing companies in Slovenia, European Union and worldwide. RM enables direct manufacturing of fully functional final products, networking different levels of manufacturing and enables safe environment-friendly manufacturing technologies. Advantages of such manufacturing are lower costs, deadlocking times of tool production and higher level of adjustability. This enables production of small series with faster design changes, less restriction regarding geometry of the workpiece and composition of the product at the machine which lowers stocks in the company. Despite some executed researches regarding Rapid Manufacturing had been done before the Programme had started (2004), the challenge and the mission of the Programme were in successful development of technologies, their networking among researchers, engineers, software experts and final users in the industry. RM has great influence on the product shape and its marketing. The researches in the Programme had shown that RM also influences on the behaviour of the manufacturing companies using this technology and positive customer response. This was also the reason why the active networking between technological and sociological environment was introduced. RM technology requires a critical mass of researchers in the R&R institutions and companies. It also requires networking of these experts among each other. With the integration into the EU research environment the contribution of knowledge and experiences from the members of the Programme group was significant and presented in the variety of industry reports, bilateral and EU projects, scientific conferences and similar.
Significance for the country
a)Sustainable society-economical and cultural development: Purpose of the Programme was in development of Rapid Prototyping technologies and offering to manufacturing companies the support at introduction of such technologies in their production. These technologies had enabled Slovenian industry to focus from mass production into production of high Added Value products. Such products have higher level of compatibility towards customers and full fill majority of Sustainable manufacturing requirements. During the Programme the application of technology management was used. b)Technological development: Production companies could be considered ad ships which »voyage from port to port« and at specific time direct deliver to customers custom–made products. With development of Rapid Prototyping technologies which use the principle of building the final product layer by layer have become such ideas reality. RP and RT technologies represent high potential in the development and practical applications because of their properties which are rapid production speeds and times, possibility of building complex shapes products and building the products to the final dimensions without using final processes. These are Rapid Manufacturing technologies. Stimulation of technological development means to acquaint and study them, make economical and technological analysis and monitor their implementation into industry. With researches made during the Programme the members significantly contributed to the development of RM in Slovenia and abroad. c)National identity and preservation of natural, cultural heritage Slovenia had become a full member of European Union in 2004 and since then we had to compensate missing technological development regarding to other developed members. At reaching this goal the research Programme could be in great assistance. The production technologies are complex. They could not be developed independently by our researchers in Slovenia but are consequence of joint development with foreign institutions, companies, ect. Because of that the correct understanding of such technologies and following innovations at this area is very important. In this manner we get higher capability of receiving state-of-the art technologies, knowledge, creation of specific accessions, innovative solutions and effective technology transfer into Slovenian manufacturing environment.
