Abstract
The objective of the EU, namely to become a knowledge-based society, cannot be realized without the education systems that respect the principles of lifelong learning and provision of equal opportunities and social inclusion in the broadest sense. The system of validation and accreditation of non-formal and informal learning respects the said principles. In Slovenia, such a system was already introduced into practice at the level of vocational and post-secondary (vocational) education, while the education structure and the needs of the labour market dictate its introduction also at the level of higher education. Numerous EU countries already considered these needs and successfully introduced such systems into practice. The aim of the project is to study the existing conditions of validation and accreditation of non-formal and informal learning at the level of higher education provided for by the existing legislation, as well as establish concrete criteria and procedures, propose the most appropriate system implementers, test the system in practice and study its effects on education institutions, emplovers and individuals.
