Significance for science
The results represent an original scientific contribution, because they reach beyond all the research about environmental problem in Slovenia carried out so far and until today prepared classifications and phenomenological schemes of environmental crime on the global level. The main importance of the research work can be seen in the analysis and determination of the real situation in the field of environmental crime in Slovenia as well as the foundation for further research and action in the field of environmental crime. The gained results allow the development of new methods of crime-prevention in the field of environmental crime and environmental threats against the national security, reduce the discrepancies between different conceptions and the lack of the environmental crime definition in the world and in Slovenia. Furthermore, they contribute positively to the further development and research in the field of environmental crime. The results represent an important foundation for further development of the social sciences. Quick action in the case of the occurrence of this type of crime is very important; thereby the preparation of programs and forms of environmental crime prevention, as well as the development of appropriate methods and training for police officers and other agencies in the field of detection and dealing with of environmental crime acts is of great importance. The project is distinguished by its publication in international journals and monographs, participation at international conferences, NATO advanced workshop, GERN workshop and activities in the international criminological associations.
Significance for the country
The achieved research results, important for Slovenia, are: - a scientific monograph; - papers in Slovenian journals; - cooperation with the Ombudsman; - cooperation with civil society representatives - NGOs; - cooperation with the Police; - the development of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of environmental protection.
