Biography
Alja Štern graduated in Microbiology at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana in September 2008. In October 2008 she enrolled in the doctoral study of Biological and Biotechnological Sciences at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, majoring in genetics. In October 2009 she became a young researcher at the National Institute of Biology (NIB) in Ljubljana, Department of Genetic Toxicology and Cancer Biology. She completed her PhD in 2013. From April 2013 to October 2019, Alja Štern was employed at Lek d.d. as researcher / researcher-expert at the department MS&T Laboratory, working in the field bioprocesses development and optimization, for the production of microbial secondary metabolites. Since 01.10.2019 she is employed at the National Institute of Biology in Ljubljana, at the Department of Genetic Toxicology and Cancer Biology as a research assistant.
