Abstract
The project activities will include all the application research necessary to develop a supervisory and control system for an automated tea packaging line. The line should be capable of concurrent production of different product types: the line is supplied with different tea blends, the final output are palletized boxes with products, ready to be transported to the plant's warehouse. The goal is the automation of the complete packaging process for 6 different tea products. The final products are different tea products in different size cartons, packed in different box sizes, stacked on europalettes.
As result of the application research we will develop a supervisory and control system distributed on five or six interconnected computers. The system functions will include:
- integration of the supervisory and control system with the factory manufacturing execution system and automatic transfer of the planned daily production and related data;
- automatic creation and update of products database tables;
- configuration of the whole plant line for concurrent production of different products;
- on-line supervision of all production line devices statuses with automatic detection of unscheduled events with indication of possible causes; generation of alarms on all events affecting productivity;
- on-line supervision and display of total production and of quantities processed on singular machines;
- collection and storing of relevant production data;
- generation of on-line production and downtime data for the central historical archive system; automatic computation of data required by the related state legislation.
The proposed automation will result in productivity rise, saving in packaging materials and in overall reduction in maintenance. The line conditions overview and immediate alarming will enable prompt response and corrective actions. The analysis of data, gathered over periods will enable identification of unscheduled downtime events, revealing hidden equipment-related inefficiencies and improvement of asset utilization and productivity. Another important goal for the commissioner will be production flexibility, enabling fast response on market demands.
