Abstract
The proposed project includes all research activities necessary to achieve a production system for a concurrent production of different products, that is tea products, packaged in labeled boxes. In the past we already developed a production line able to package the product range of the company at that time. Due to its advantages, the company was able to increase the market share, introduce new products and cut down the production costs. This in turn led to a business agreement with a foreign company to take over the complete production of their tea assortment. This situation generated a necessity for a major upgrade of the present production facility. The new automated line will represent an important part of the whole factory. The inputs will be raw tea mixtures and other raw materials, and the output will be different tea box products, labeled and packaged in various cardboard boxes, stacked on europalettes, ready to be transported to the automated warehouse. Due to the importance of continuous and interrupted production, we will also develop various methods for remote access to the production facility. The remote access will be used for monitoring the production line status, fast interventions in case of production interruptions and also for fast remote functional upgrades of the supervisory and control system components. The proposed project includes the range of application research activities needed to solve all design tasks. These include the overall system design and system integration and the design of individual subsystems and functions. The resulting production line will have important functional and production improvements, necessary to strengthen the company economic position in the national and international markets.
Significance for science
The activities and results of the project will contribute to the knowledge of various aspects of automation and production technologies and also to the knowledge related to system integration of various components into a coherently operating supervisory and control system. The goal of the project is the development of a single completely automated production line, capable of concurrent production of different tea products, each characterized by different tea blends, packaging boxes, labeling, larger warehousing and transport packaging types. An automated solution with such level of efficiency and flexibility is not known to us or to the technical and technological personnel of the co-financing company.
Significance for the country
The results of the project are concurrently implemented and adopted in the target advanced production facility of the co-financing company. Thus the project results are directly transferred to the industrial partner. The direct outcome of the research project can be thus measured with financial benefits for Slovene economy. Due to the advanced characteristics and flexibility of the resulting production facility, the results contributed to increased competitiveness in internationalized marked environment. This is especially important in the context of the present economic crisis. The project staff, involved in the project, acquired new knowledge that will be used also in future research and development projects for other Slovene companies.
