Significance for science
The project has shown that in the former Yugoslavia in the twenty years after the disintegration of the country there were no trends of convergence of social and cultural patterns. Differences between the societies have remained and deepened, while some trends appear to have been common to all the societies. One such trend is the privatization of religiosity. The study also showed that nearly two decades after the collapse of Yugoslavia, among its successor, the process of democratic consolidation is not yet complete.
Significance for the country
It is a fundamental project, although having both political and economic implications. One should mention ther organization of the international sociological conference on post-Yugoslav societies. At the conference, researchers presented their findings to, among others, policy makers and representatives of NGOs from all post-Yugoslav countries (with excluding Kosovo).
