Significance for science
Applied research in the domain of process control technologies (smart grids, smart and passive houses) and in the field of renewable energy technologies (gasification of biomass) is the key for the implementation of concrete investment projects in the economy. For the realization of such projects there is a need for interdisciplinary knowledge and objective approach. Our research is important for the selection of available and front-edge technologies on international scale.
Significance for the country
Japanese economy is from the strategic development point of view very important partner for Slovenia. Japanese enterprises have a leading role in key high tech products and technological solutions (process control technologies, robotics, advanced energy technologies, power plants from renewable energy sources). The foundation of TDC in Ljubljana will be of great importance for Slovenia because of the transfer of knowledge and concentration of competences in the region. The foundation of TDC will enable Slovenian partners (in collaboration with Japanese enterprises) to find new marketing chanels and new markets. The envisaged center will have long term multiplicative effects on R&D and business co-operation between two countries and overseas regions. The volume of Slovenian-Japanese trade could increase through logistic centers and transport channels. Slovenian strategic interest is to establish long term partnerships in high tech products with high value added. Present technological centers in Slovenia are not sufficiently internationalised and have no capital links with leading Japanese companies. The envisaged TDC will enable the new positioning of technologically advanced companies in Slovenia and increase the exports of high tech products and services.
