Legend
Gabrijel Zubčić was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1990. He obtained his MSc in Applied Chemistry from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb, where his master’s thesis focused on “Stereoselective arylation of diaryl ketimines catalyzed by chiral Brønsted acids.” His mentors were Prof. Irena Škorić, PhD, and Dr. Matija Gredičak (Ruđer Bošković Institute).
He earned his PhD in 2025 from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Zagreb, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Davor Šakić, PhD, working on the Croatian Science Foundation Starting Grant project “Light-Driven Functionalization of Unreactive Sites Using Oxidative Amination (LIGHT-N-RING).”
His research focuses on mechanistic organic chemistry, radical reactions, and computational modelling of photochemical processes. He has published five peer-reviewed papers (four original and one review), including articles in The Journal of Organic Chemistry, The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, Acta Pharmaceutica, Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, and Kemija u industriji (Chem. Ind.).
He has participated in 13 international and national conferences (12 poster presentations, 2 oral presentations), held a workshop in quantum chemistry, co-authored one professional article, participated in a public science festival, and attended three summer schools, one winter school, and several technical workshops. He also has four years of teaching experience assisting laboratory exercises in Analytical Chemistry I and II.
