University of Maribor, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

The Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, University of Maribor, is a well-established university institution, formally founded at the beginning of 1995. The Faculty has the necessary potential for offering quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and carrying out research and developmental projects, as well as developing wide cooperation with similar institutions in the country and abroad. There are two types of graduate study programme leading to: (1) full university degree, and (2) professional higher education degree. The stress is on chemical engineering providing knowledge and skills for development of cleaner processes and products in industry, designing and optimising equipment, and running complete production systems. The postgraduate studies lead to the Master Degree and finally after doctoral studies to the PhD Degree. The Faculty enrolls over 200 students per year. Postgraduate studies have been organised since 1984 with about 12 postgraduates per year, two third are involved in Master studies, and a third reaches the doctoral level. Research fields include process- and system engineering and separation processes, as well as polymer, inorganic, organic, physical and structural chemistry. All teaching and technical staff is engaged in basic and/or applied research. The relevant ministries and certain industries finance most research. Among the research projects (about 20 per year on average), several (currently 8) are carried out with international cooperation, and about one quarter are carried out in cooperation, and supported by industry. The Faculty employs close to 60 staff members. About one half of them are fully employed, as teaching staff, one quarter represent research-postgraduates, and the reminding are technicians and members of administration.
