Description
The Institute for Contemporary History is the main scientific institution in Slovenia for studies of the recent history of the Slovenes from the middle of 19th Century onward. It was founded by Slovene government in 1959 as the Institute for the history of the Labour Movement. Today, associates of the Institute study the entire Slovene political, cultural, economic and social history until the latest period, in four chronological complexes (up to 1918, 1918-1941, 1941-1945, 1945- onward). The Institute is a scientific research institution with highly qualified staff; among the 25 employees of the Institute there are 21 historians: 13 PhD´s (3 scientific councillors, 6 senior scientific associates, 3 scientific associates, 1 research assistant), 4 MA´s among them 2 junior researchers, 4 professional collaborators. The results of research are available in professional monographs, publications of historical sources, text books, scientific articles and the main Slovene historical and other scientific and professional magazines and elsewhere (eg. The Encyclopedia of Slovenia). The associates of the Institute regularly contribute papers in international scientific symposium. Since 1959 the Institute has published a magazine, entitled Prispevki za novejšo zgodovino ( Contributions to the Contemporary History), which contains articles by the Institute´s associates and other experts. An annual report on the activities of the Institute and a bibliography of the associates are also published in this magazine. The results of the Institute's research are also available within bibliographies of scientific and professional associates on the Internet: http//www2.arnes.si/ljinz15/institut.htm.
