Description
EIPF is a small-size institute founded in 1963 by Professor Aleksander Bajt. EIPF specializes in macroeconomic policy analysis. Its main field of research is analyzing and forecasting economic trends in Slovenia, and advising on short run and medium term economic policy. In general, econometrics has been the Institute's basic research method. The Institute has since 1970 published an influential monthly GOSPODARSKA GIBANJA (in Slovenian; and a twin publication PRIVREDNA KRETANJA JUGOSLAVIJE in Serbo-Croate, 1970-1991) dealing with current trends in the Slovene economy and major economic policy issues. The institute has been engaged in research on a wide variety of macroeconomics issues resulting in articles published in GOSPODARSKA GIBANJA and other publications, home or abroad. With double transition of Slovenia the research has shifted to the problems of transition in a small open economy which includes topics such as: ownership transformation, structural changes, macroeconomic stabilization, monetary policy, fiscal and growth in transition economies. EIPF uses and develops contemporary econometric methods for observing and explaining macroeconomic flows and studying the mechanism of national economy. The results contribute to the theory in comparative economics and economic policy. Beside theoretical and methodological papers published elsewhere, the research results are directly relevant for actual current economic policies. They are reported directly to the decision makers in government, ministries, or Bank of Slovenia. EIPF has a staff of 8 researchers supported by administration. It is well equipped; existing hardware and software suffice for the realization of the project. EIPF owns Micro-VAX, working station ALFA, a number of PC's and other equipment.
