Description
The Peace Institute is a non-profit institute, which was established in 1991. In the first years it dealt mainly with the research on war, violence and security, in recent years the research has expanded also into the following fields: political science, cultural studies, gender studies, sociology and anthropology.
Four centres were established in 1998. They carry out the research and education in the following areas: political science and political theory with the special emphasis on its historical, topographic and phenomenological dimension; gender and politics (the centre also established its library and documentation); popular culture, cultural industry and cultural politics; violence and conflicts, which includes also acquiring of practical experiences and the application of the contemporary methods of conflict resolution.
The Peace Institute has collaborated with the following institutions abroad: Harvard Medical School and World Reach from the USA, the European University Centre for Peace Studies, the Alpen-Adria Alternative and A#PEC from Austria, the Anti-War Campaign from Croatia and the ACLI-CEPAS from Italy, The City College of New York, Friedensbüro, Salzburg, the Institute for Human Sciences, Vienna, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest, the University of Bremen, Germany and Studio Universitario Europeo, Fiesole, Florence.
