Description
The Institute for Economic Research (IER) is an autonomous research organisation with a long tradition in the field of macroeconomic and microeconomic analysis. In the beginning, significant results were achieved in applying econometric methods and input-output methodology in macroeconomic analyses. Also, strategic studies at the regional and microeconomic levels were carried out. The growing awareness of the importance of entrepreneurship in the late eighties gave rise to new research topics, such as strategic planning, financial restructuring of enterprises and feasibility studies. The results of the IER research are published as books, reports, working papers and journal articles, and are also disseminated through the media and advising to the ministries. The Institute has developed a wide range of international research and teaching activities and contacts. Contract research and consulting was established with the World Bank, EU and UNIDO. Some of the Institute's research staff have worked as consultants for the World Bank, FAO and OECD. IER is an institutional member of the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) and WAITRO (World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisations). Recently IER has joined the European research networks of different institutes exploring the transition of post-communist societies.
